December 8, 2023 NJLA 2024 SALARY GUIDE NOW AVAILABLE The Executive Board approved NJLA’s 2024 salary guide on Nov. 21. The guide is effective Jan. 1. The guide recommends minimum starting salaries which are 4% higher than those in the 2023 guide. NJLA recommends staff receive 2024 annual increases of at least 4%, or the minimum starting recommendation for the position, whichever is greater. New Jersey’s 2024 minimum wage will be $15.13 per hour. The cost of living and library revenue (from dedicated taxes and other government sources) vary greatly within New Jersey. This document is prepared as a guide for library workers, and for library boards and administrations in determining salary standards that can be supported by their individual organizations. The document is extensive, and it’s worth taking a look. The Personnel Administration Subcommittee updated this guide using a great deal of data available and provided a thorough and transparent background of the process and the justification for the numbers that appear on the guide itself. It’s important to note that we all understand that this is meant to serve as a guide, not necessarily dictate specific decisions made at the local level, and NJLA recognizes that cost of living and sources of library revenue vary greatly both geographically throughout NJ as well as simply from library-to-library. Click here to read more Per Capita State Aid Increased by $1million in New Jersey’s FY22 Budget The Executive Board of the New Jersey Library Association is pleased to announce that a $1 million increase in Per Capita State Aid (PCSA), is included in the State of New Jersey’s FY22 Budget, signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy on June 29, 2021. This is the first time that the PCSA has received a positive adjustment in over 10 years! Click here for the full article in the South Jersey Observer The New Jersey Library Association Dedicates Funding for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in New Jersey Librarianship On July 20, 2021, the New Jersey Library Association (NJLA) Executive Board approved $20,000 in funding to provide two American Library Association (ALA) Spectrum Scholarships for New Jersey residents and to support equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) recruitment and retention training. Beginning in FY24, NJLA will include $8,500 in its Operating Budget to support an annual New Jersey ALA Spectrum Scholarship. This program will give public libraries in every county of New Jersey the opportunity to receive funding to help their residents bridge the digital divide.
